Q&A

A space for sharing our experience by answering questions that others like you have asked before.

Can I get a prescription through a telehealth appointment?

DoctorsinItaly does not guarantee prescriptions. It is up to the doctor to recommend and prescribe the best treatment. Electronic prescriptions can be issued through a video consultation.  In any case doctors available on DoctorsinItaly do not issue prescriptions for controlled substances or other drugs that may be harmful because of their potential for abuse.

Can you prescribe antibiotics?

Yes, however, any prescription of antibiotics must be accurate and professional. We understand the negative consequences that may result from over-prescribing, and thus our doctors will only write prescriptions in instances where such medication is absolutely necessary.

How do I book a video visit?

Just go to doctorsinitaly.com and click “See a doctor”. Take the short survey. Enter your preferred date and time for the appointment and what the visit is for.
This will give doctors the information they need to better assist you. The more accurate you will be in describing your issue, the easier will be for doctors to offer you an appointment. Select between email or Whatsapp as your preferred contact channel.
In a few minutes you will start receiving offers by doctors. Carefully choose the one that works for you. See fees and read reviews by other English-speaking patients.
When you find an appointment that fits your needs click on the time and complete the booking by following the quick prompts.

How do I join a video visit I booked?

You may think you will need to use Zoom but…no. We use a proprietary video conference system for our video visits. You don’t need to download any app. The video visit works in your browser. You will receive a message via email or Whatsapp from DoctorsinItaly. Just click on the link inside the email/Whatsapp and you will be redirected to launch the video visit from your browser.

How much will the video visit cost?

With up-front pricing you will always know the cost before booking. Each online doctor sets the fees to charge, so prices vary depending on who you choose to see. Generally the cost of a video consultation with a primary care physician goes from about 20 euro up to 70 euro approximately. Find out more about doctors’ prices >

Is an online doctor able to solve my issue?

In recent survey 93% of patients who used virtual care with their primary care doctor reported that the video visit adequately addressed their concerns. In another study, a video visit was able to provide a diagnosis that was confirmed 82% of the times. Telehealth works because sometimes you just need a quick interaction with a clinician for a common health concern that can be quickly addressed virtually.  If you think you need immediate in-person care a video visit is not for you. Virtual care cannot substitute emergency departments and it is not meant for emergency needs such as severe shortness of breath or chest pain.

Can I see a doctor online during night time?

DoctorsinItaly is a very fast way to get an appointment with a doctor. 24% of appointments are arranged during night time. Many doctors are night owls, so there is a good chance you can be seen tonight.

Will I get the doctor give me a prescription?

Yes, if necessary, the doctor will send you a prescription that you can use to buy medicine you need at any pharmacy. In order to prevent abuse,  controlled substances require an in-person visit and a physical prescription.
