SOFT TISSUE ULTRASOUND (SUPERFICIAL LUMPS and OTHER SMALL PARTS)
Soft tissue ultrasound will be requested if your doctor wants to assess the contents of a superficial lump (just beneath the skin) on your body. A lump may contain fat, fluid or solid tissue. Ultrasound helps your doctor decide if this area needs another test to diagnose the type of tissue in the lump.
How the scan is done?
You will be asked to show the area of the body where the lump is present. Ultrasound device produces pictures in real-time of the lump using high frequency sound wave, through a small probe and ultrasound gel placed directly on the skin. The doctor will move the probe over the lump to provide a complete set of images.
How do I prepare?
There is no preparation for a soft tissue ultrasound. Please bring previous ultrasound report of the same area (if you have any).
